The Second Annual Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School Scholarship Awards Ceremony took place on Friday, April 22, after a schoolwide donor Mass. In a special ceremony, ten students were recognized for their academic standing, moral character, and dedication to Cristo Rey Tampa.
Terri Parnell-Longphee, Development Director, welcomed guests and students to the ceremony, and Fr. Franco Pinto, Director of Mission, opened with a prayer. Ms. Parnell-Longphee gave special thanks to the scholarship donors for their generosity and support of the Cristo Rey Tampa mission. “Your dedication and commitment to our students are inspiring. You provide a tremendous opportunity and a path to a bright future,” shared Parnell-Longphee.
Principal Matt Torano thanked the donors for sharing their time, talent, and treasure. “Investment into our young people multiplies the same way Jesus multiplied the loaves. It feeds our community and satisfies our souls. We thank you for your time today to come and bear witness to your gift in action.” said Torano. He also lauded the students for their resilience and embracing life’s challenges.
Before presenting each scholarship, the donor or designee made a few remarks and reminded the student body of the opportunity Cristo Rey Tampa affords and the ones that lie ahead. Thank you to all of the donors and donor designees who joined us for this special ceremony (see second photo of slide above)
