Draft Day 2022
Cristo Rey Tampa students and more than 60 Corporate Work Study Partner matches were revealed during Cristo Rey Tampa’s 2022 Draft Day. In “Draft Day” style, Cristo Rey Tampa students, faculty and staff, parents, and special guests filled the gym to cheer on the Panthers. ThunderBug, the Tampa Bay Lightning mascot, the GoldRush, Saint Leo University’s Dance Team, and Mr. Chuck Leitzke, the emcee and number one cheerleader, revved the crowd up.
Keynote speaker Mrs. Nancy Millan, Hillsborough County Tax Collector and Corporate Work Study Partner, shared how the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) helps develop the future workforce. She also suggested that students consider the governmental sector when exploring careers. The Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office is in its second year as a CWSP Partner and values what Cristo Rey Tampa students bring to the office. Mrs. Millan was so impressed with her student worker last year, who worked in the IT Department, that he was offered a part-time job while attending the University of Tampa.
The crowd erupted in applause, and pom-poms waved each time students were called to the stage to meet their CWSP Partner match for the year and receive swag. Interim Vice President of Corporate Work Study Mrs. Karin Mountain thanked Corporate Work Study Partners for transforming students’ lives through education and the Corporate Work Study Program. “Success stories happen only because of you,” said Mrs. Mountain.
The school year also brought new Corporate Work Study Program Partners and Sponsors. New to the lineup this year are Burgess & Niple, CLA (Clifton Larson Allen), Hillsborough County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Moffitt Cancer Center, Saint Leo University, Sunshine Health, TECO, and USF Health. Each of these companies said “yes” to the Cristo Rey mission and has Cristo Rey Tampa students working in their offices.
Cristo Rey Tampa’s young professionals work five days a month in entry-level jobs in law, finance, healthcare, technology, marketing, education, and many other nonprofit and professional offices. All students participate in a college preparatory curriculum, including AP and dual enrollment courses, while building their professional resumes and honing their social and technical skills through the corporate work study experience.
Thank you, Corporate Work Study Partners and Sponsors, for investing in Cristo Rey Tampa students.
