Dear Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School family,

I am reaching out to you, our supporter and friend, to let you know that we are thinking about you and your family. I also want to provide a brief update on our students, teachers, and our school during the COVID-19 crisis.

As mandated by the Governor and the Florida Department of Education, all students have transitioned to E-Learning at home. Also, all staff is working and meeting remotely. Currently, students are scheduled to return to campus on April 16; however, we are prepared to extend our E-Learning through the remainder of the school year if directed to by the Florida Department of Education.

Pivoting from live instruction to remote learning in the middle of the semester is challenging. Still, I should note that Cristo Rey Tampa has the tools and team in place to ensure that this experience is as positive and productive as possible for our students. I am happy to report that we achieved 100% engagement with all our students, as shared by Principal Matt Torano.  We have also adapted our attendance policies and procedures, established office hours, and unit syllabi for all students, in all classes.

I am proud to report that our faculty, staff, and students are tackling this challenge with great spirit and positive attitudes. They have made the transition to E-Learning as exciting and smooth as possible. I have also witnessed firsthand the engaging and productive atmosphere in our online classes. We continue our commitment to strive for academic excellence while utilizing new and creative instructional methods that promote student success.

Social distancing and the shutdown of the campus has made connecting with our families more critical now than ever. My leadership team has taken great effort in keeping our students, parents, and friends of Cristo Rey Tampa informed via our social media platforms as well as text, phone, and email. We have witnessed beautiful stories emerge this week, which illustrate the spirit of teamwork that is alive throughout our Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian community. We are surrounding our students with love and attention to ensure they flourish in their new learning environment.

We continue to recruit and accept applications for our fall Freshman class. Our admissions efforts have now moved into the digital realm with virtual tours, webinars, and video presentations leading our initiatives.

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, I can assure you that our commencement exercises will happen! Currently scheduled for June 6, we are exploring alternative dates if needed. Rest assured, our first graduating class of seniors will be celebrated for their accomplishments very soon!

Despite the challenges, I am so proud of how our Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian family has come together to ensure the well-being of our students and our whole community. Thank you for supporting Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School…and all our students!

May God bless you and keep each one of you safe and healthy. May the Mother of God continue to bless and protect Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School.

We are #CRTstrong. Go Panthers!
